Therapy Dog Prep: Fall 2024

Service Description

This is an optional class to help prepare your dog for Therapy Dog work. Dogs must be 12 months or older to enroll. Dogs should already have a decent grasp on basics manners and enjoy visiting new people prior to enrolling. If your dog does not like strangers this class is not a good fit for them. Classes 1-3 will involve learning about the role of therapy dogs, your role as a handler, exposure to a variety of stimuli, and prep-work for the controlled therapy dog temperament evaluation. Class 4 will consist of the controlled therapy dog temperament evaluation. All dogs must pass this evaluation to continue on to classes 5-14. If a dog is unable to pass no refunds will be given *however* the dog and handler team will be granted a free spot in the next therapy dog certification course (courses take place each Spring and Fall). All dogs that pass the evaluation will move on to the supervised visit portion of the class. After that there are supervised 10 visits required to finish certification. In order to help expediate this process there are 2 visits a week planned after the conclusion of the control evaluation test. Dog and handler teams may also utilize other local members to complete the 10 supervised visits. Please note that your dog should already have a foundation on basic manners prior to enrolling in this class. No prong collars, head halters, or shock collars are permitted. All dogs must be on a non-retractable leash. Owner is responsible for bringing small bite sized training treats. Cancellation Policy

Non-refundable purchase. Client is responsible for internet connection during session if booking a virtual class. No refunds are given for client internet service outages or slow connection speeds.
